Welcome Home Travelers, Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are unique sister resort towns a few miles apart along Mexico’s deep-blue central Pacific Coast known as the Mexican Riviera. They share an international airport and miles of beaches. Zihuatanejo is the original settlement and actual town. Ixtapa was built as a resort on a former coconut plantation by the Mexican government in the early 1970s. Zihuatanejo has the traditional charm of an authentic Mexican fishing village, while Ixtapa is more similar to modern Acapulco. It can be hot and humid during monsoon season (June to September), when the rain really pours down.
Ixtapa’s main beach, Playa El Palmar, is lined with high-rise resorts and small hotels, dozens of restaurants, nightclubs, live entertainment, shopping, golf and tennis. A short water taxi ride from Ixtapa is an island called Isla Ixtapa, which is accessible from the pier at Playa Linda. Activities abound, from snorkeling, diving, surfing and sport fishing to cave exploration, skydiving, swimming with dolphins and horseback riding on the beach.

Welcome Home Travelers, “The Dominican Republic has now taken over the number in rankings for the Caribbean region for Delta Vacations, she said. Delta Airlines increased service between New York’s JFK International Airport and Punta Cana by six percent last year, she added. Kramer says the Dominican Republic’s visitor growth has been earned:
“I think with the growth of so many recognizable brands and new products in the country, they are bringing great focus to the consumers as well as the travel agents. “The quality of products in the destination is extremely high, and there are very good values for what you’re getting. It’s an outstanding destination with products at an elite level,” Kramer added. “We are very committed to the Dominican Republic and growing the entire leisure component [for] the destination.” Most of the country’s visitor growth is focused in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic’s main resort district, which features a cutting-edge selection of upscale, all-inclusive resorts.
Yet the Dominican Republic’s tourism growth also continued extending last year to Santo Domingo, the historic Dominican capital city, and Puerto Plata, a seaside town that has experienced resurging visitor interest. During the DATE gathering, two major all-inclusive resorts located on Punta Cana beaches—Secrets Cap Cana and Bahia Principe’s Fantasia—debuted, highlighting the region’s robust resort development. Welcome Home Travelers, if you crave turquoise water and isolated beaches and want to go where your Marriott Rewards account takes you, there’s a new island in the Caribbean to add to your must-visit list. The Courtyard Bonaire recently became the first chain hotel to ever open on the island.
Let that sink in for a moment. The lack of chain accommodations means smaller crowds. It means unspoiled stretches of shoreline. It means Bonaire still moves to the slow pace you crave when you need to decompress.
Not Just for Divers. Bonaire has long been a mecca for scuba divers from across the globe. They come here for the protected reefs easily accessible from shore. While there have never been any chains, there are hotels—most of them focused on scuba diving.
The opening of the Courtyard comes at a time when the island is emerging from its nobody-goes-there-but-divers reputation. In recent years, the island gained several cruise ship stops per week, bringing with them the usual growth in companies that cater to tourists. Read More…
